Part 3: Lecture Plan

Lesson title / subject: 
Basic security at pre-primary school (4-5 years old students)

Pedagogical theory / learning theory: 
Teaching walk (Hyppönen & Lindén 2009)

Learning objectives: 
To understand the basic of environmental security

Learning contents:
At the end of the teaching walk session, students should know the following things; 
(1) the exit door
(2) assembly place in case of emergency 
(3) procedure in case of earthquake

Forms of assessment:
Group simulation (5 students), Pass or Fail

Other pedagogical considerations:
Showing a live simulation to the students before starting the course.


LECTURE STRUCTURE

Min. 1-5: 
Main teacher and 2 nursery teachers present themselves to the students. Main teacher explains the importance of the drill today.

Min. 6-10:
Any student that has questions will be answered by the main teacher.

Min. 10-35:
Main teacher and nursery teacher perform live simulation drill in front of students.

Min. 35-45:
Any student that has questions will be answered by the main teacher.

Min. 45-60:
Break time

Min. 60-120:
Groups of 5 students re-do the drill. Each group will be given 15 mins. 
13 mins to perform the drill and 2 mins for them to tell others how they felt. 
Thus, total number of students that perform the drill today is 20. 
Day 2 will be another 15 students.

Min. 120-150:
Teacher gives group feedback and asks anonymous feedback from students by using the happy or not method.
Teacher finally thanks group for today and take group picture which will be given as gifts to whole group. 
Teacher writes each student name to give security certificate of attendance.


OBSERVATION:
  • Students experienced performance-stress
  • Some students were talkative
  • Students were allowed to choose their own groups and eventually there were only boys and girls group.
  • Some students took their bags with them
  • Main teacher discussed with the nursery teachers that it is important to retrain at regular intervals and also to write a card which says "Room Empty".

Analysing any of the sessions we had in the autumn 2018 (by referring to the recordings). Choose a session where in addition to the Adobe Connect tool some other digital tools are used. Positive Leadership (3 ECTS)

The first optional course that I had was: Positive Leadership (3 ECTS) At a professional and personal level, I think the understanding and application of positive leadership will build and maintain great relationships be it in the role of a teacher, wife, sister or daughter. By being a positive leader, one can lead with purpose and excellence, have a sense of optimism and positive vision. My professional background is in international business and being optimistic is considered an important attribute. My group activity performed during the course was Lego Building where i was in a group 1. we were 3 members in all in Group 1. We then gave Group 2 and Group 3 the challenge to build some animals and the teacher, Mrs Dana Linkeschova, had to identify the animals of both groups. ABC’s of Teaching in English (Pre-task) Teaching in English: a chore or a bonus? My experience using English in teaching. Using English language during my studies have always been the most comfortable language as in Mauritius, we learn English language from the age of 3 during the pre-primary school. Communicating in English is a must in all subjects apart from studying different languages such as French and Hindi. The national anthem of Mauritius is also in English language. While I have got the opportunity to choose the place where I can perform my teaching practice, I opted for a university where all teachings are done in English.
